The main problem for me is the artstyle is very weird. All the character's look like little kids and the proportions are very off. It's just way worse than Omocat's artstyle (even for a Manga Medium). But making Omori a manga has always been stupid since the story is built off of being a video game...

It's possible they rearranged it to get the "hook" earlier in the story, since people might not read more than the first chapter otherwise. Also possible that they don't have that many chapters to span the story across. Definitely less confusing than the Yume Nikki manga so far though.

Sunflower is a one-sided relationship. Sunny: Doesn't want to remeber his trauma from the stairs incident, and being with basil will do that Basil: *Wants to stay with Sunny, needs Sunny, obbessed with Sunny, Won't leave Sunny* (Edit: No hate to Sunflower lovers)

One thing I hope the manga does is expand on a lot of moments not shown in the game but had a noticeable impact on the characters like Hero's outburst on Kel, Sunny smearing the photos, Sunny and Mari's whole argument, Aubrey's coping, Sunny's dad leaving It could make the manga more worthwhile to read and the storytelling format of manga as a whole means that it could easily show these moments and they'd rarely feel out of place and remove immersion from the reader

i do think people are being really harsh way too early when it's only been one chapter, though i did personally feel like the pacing was way too fast. like you said, them going immediately into the sunny + aubrey fight scene was weird because people who haven't played the game have no reason to care about these characters yet one of the official twitter accounts did say the manga was meant to be for new and old fans alike, but imo old fans are getting mad at how it isn't a 1:1 adaptation, while it seems like they expected new fans to get immediately attached to the characters without really giving them any reason to be since there was no build-up personally i'm hoping they're doing an alt version of the story and that the pacing/plot/characterisation differences will make sense later due to that

I'll always disagree with Sunny having more emotions until the day I die. Sunny is MEANT to not be emotional, he's meant to be a stoic person whos emotions are always just blank. In the game, the only time he gets emotions... are during hallucinations, or a specific fly segment. Said fly segment goes to really only show his anger issues to begin with. It doesn't exactly help that Sunny can't even feel emotions above tier 1, let alone even feel happy. Him being afraid at literally everything doesn't make sense. Especially the whole "panicking over Mari" thing, because a minute after Aubrey says that Mari died in the game, his face is completely blank. Why is he going into a panic attack?

I think the way omocat wanted this to go is making us have this realization that sunny is better of DEAD. The way the faraway town was introduced is brutal and honestly if everyday outside was like that i wouldn't go out either, right? See? The dream world is just better, in everyway possible. No family introductions, just sunny waking up to kel and meet aubrey and fights and stuff and sad and depression idk. I think later on the plot would instead be choosing your ending it would be more like "is it even worth it to live?" "why do people live just to suffer?" and yea

calling the manga a hot mess is a far stretch. If the manga followed an exact and clear-cut replication of the game, then you're just watching a playthrough with moderately cool visuals and a breakdown of the game's plotline. If they didn't tweak up some things like giving characters more personality through speaking more, different forms of dialogue, changing the pacing like starting in Three Days Left, then we might as well just take screenshots of Omori gameplay and call it the official Omori manga.

Honestly for me, apart from the pacing it was really good

All of headcanons of Sunny being mostly expressionless has been shattered, thrown down a cliff and got ran over by a semi truck a couple of times. Damn that hurt. Though I feel like this is definitely not for "beginner omori fans" or something. I would MUCH prefer someone to play the game first than reading the manga. Also I love how dry this guy's humor is. You really remind me of moist critical lol.

The pacing is deffinetly a bit of a surprise, but I adore how much more alive the characters feel. I don't think the pacing is too much of an issue, cause it seems they're just switching up the order of moments rather than cutting out content.

A major reason for the fast pacing in my opinion is that Sunny is a silent protagonist, for me the pacing felt normal when other characters were around since there was stuff to read.
